Conservation is a broad field – in which various stakeholders interact and many precautions are necessary. Thus, besides the National Park, other types of reserves are of significance for Saxon Switzerland.

National Parks
Nature Reserves
Nature reserves (§ 23 Federal Nature Conservation Act) serve especially the preservation, development and restoration of habitats and the associated wild fauna and flora. Any destruction, alteration or impairment within them is excluded. Use is only permitted if it does not conflict with the protective purpose.
Landscape Conservation Areas
Landscape conservation areas (§ 26 Federal Nature Conservation Act) fulfill the purpose of conservation, development or restoration of performance and functioning abilities of ecosystems. In general, these are large areas that additionally serve recreational purposes for people.
