Themed trails

You can learn about nature and culture in Saxon Switzerland on various themed trails: the Weg zur Wildnis (Path to Wilderness) offers an insight into forest development in the national park, while the Flößersteig (Raftsmen's Trail) provides information about the history of rafting in the Kirnitzsch Valley. Guided tours are also available for some of the themed trails.

What exactly is a "Waldhusche"? What does wild browsing mean? How does natural regeneration work? Why were game fences built in the past? And what is a tree nursery?

You can find the answers to these questions at the 66-hectare Waldhusche exhibition and adventure area in Hinterhermsdorf. Children and adults alike can go on a discovery tour through the forest history open-air site. You will encounter many surprises and new things at the interactive stations, where historical forest work is presented and thought-provoking ideas for future forest use are illustrated. The open-air site is particularly suitable for children to actively explore the forest.

There are four different themed trails in the Waldhusche. Please note that all information boards and explanations are in German.
