As the Saxon Switzerland National Park and Forest Administration (NLPFV), we are a regional organisational unit of the SACHSENFORST state enterprise. As a protected area and forest administration, we look after the Saxon Switzerland National Park with an area of 9,350 hectares, manage 12,900 hectares of state forest in Saxon Switzerland outside the boundaries of the national park, and are responsible for providing advice and support in private and corporate forests (approx. 6,600 hectares). 

As the NLPFV, we are also the nature conservation authority for the national park region consisting of the national park (NLP) and the surrounding landscape conservation area (LSG) of Saxon Switzerland (left and right bank of the Elbe).

Under the motto ‘Manage - Preserve - Shape’, we see ourselves as a service provider for people, forests and nature in the Saxon Switzerland National Park region. 

Our foresters support the development of nature in the national park and manage the large state forest districts in the region according to the principles of integrative, nature-orientated forest management. We provide advice and assistance to owners and users of forests, open land and bodies of water as well as to citizens, local authorities, associations and clubs in the region on issues relating to forests, forestry, nature conservation and landscape management. We support visitors and residents in discovering the national park region. Our extensive nature educational and forest educational programmes bring children and young people closer to nature and the forest.

As a nature conservation authority, we preserve and develop the uniqueness, beauty, natural diversity and natural processes in the national park. In the landscape conservation area, we preserve the overall aesthetic impression of the landscape, which is created by the simultaneously tangible dimensions of expanse and depth between the various landscape levels. Together with local authorities and landowners, we promote and maintain the largely intact cultural landscape.
