Apple festival
In addition to mixed forests and rocks, intact orchards with old apple varieties are also valuable elements of the natural and cultural landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Every year on a Sunday in October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., everything in the garden of the National Park Centre in Bad Schandau revolves around the most delicious of all local fruits: the apple. A small variety show offers an overview of regional apple varieties. There is also lots of interesting information and recipe suggestions for this popular fruit.
If you bring your local apple varieties with you, you can have them identified by an experienced pomologist: please be sure to bring four apples of each variety! If you also have suitable containers with you, you can have your apples juiced at the mobile press. Other popular activities include kneading apple pastries yourself and baking them in a clay oven, or making a wide variety of edible apple creations.
Apple poetry awaits discovery in the garden of the National Park Centre, and live music refreshes the soul.
Admission to the Apple Festival is free.
