Cross-border activities

The natural landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains does not end at the border with the Czech Republic: it continues seamlessly into Bohemian Switzerland. Two national parks and two landscape conservation areas ensure the long-term protection of the nature and landscape of the entire region. Although a large part of the national border runs through the core zones of the national parks, where strict rules regarding the use of paths apply, there are six points where it is possible to cross the border: of the five border crossings in the Hinterhermsdorf area, two are also accessible to cyclists, and in 2026 the new cross-border hiking trail between Schmilka and Hřensko was opened. Outside the national parks, the border can generally be crossed anywhere. (Please remember to bring your ID card!)

We have compiled a few suggestions for cross-border hikes and cycle tours both within and outside the national parks. Public transport also allows you to explore the entire area on both sides of the border: let the cross-border timetable inspire you!
