Ottendorf's Volunteer Fire Brigade is the only fire brigade in Germany that has the status of national park partner. Besides joint drills, the national park administration and the volunteers go on excursions together with the goal to familiarise themselves with the region, because the special relief of the area can be particularly hard to traverse in case of fires. Longstanding mutual trust and practised cooperation increase the safety of all involved in an emergency.
