Sellnitz festival

The big family festival at Lilienstein

The Sellnitzfest at the foot of Lilienstein is the big family festival in the Saxon Switzerland National Park. It traditionally takes place on the first Sunday in June from 11:00 a.m. and offers many hands-on activities for children and adults. The programme focuses on the natural surroundings of the national park, delicious food and drink from the region, live music from the Dresden band Krambambuli and the Dresden Theatre Manufactory with its puppet theatre.

At many activity stations on the adventure meadow at Sellnitz, children can enjoy first-hand experiences of nature with rangers and environmental educators. For relaxation, the Sellnitzfest offers flower-filled adventure meadows, quiet corners under trees, sweeping views of nature and pure tranquillity.

Even the journey there is a nature experience, as visitors first take the S-Bahn 1 to Königstein, then cross the Elbe by ferry and finally take a short hike from the Elbe valley to Sellnitz on the eastern side of the Lilienstein.

Admission is free.

Nature education at Sellnitz

for generations of children

The Sellnitz Festival was first held in 1996 as an open day at the Sellnitz Environmental Education Centre in the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Since then, several thousand children have taken part in age-specific half-day programmes here every year. Young interns and volunteer environmental educators support the national park and forestry administration with many fresh programmes on nature and the environment for school classes. Schools from Saxon Switzerland and Dresden in particular take advantage of this offer.
