Wool festival
‘Felted – Knitted – Spun. Sheep's wool from the region for the region’ – under this motto, the garden of the National Park Centre in Bad Schandau is the venue for the traditional wool festival on the last Sunday in April from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The family festival for visitors of all ages offers live music, puppet shows and an exhibition of rare breeds of sheep. All lovers of wool, sheep and handicrafts will find something to enjoy here.
One of the highlights every year is the commented sheep shearing. The shearer demonstrates the first step in obtaining the popular natural product wool. The further steps involved in processing the wool, right up to the use of spinning equipment, are clearly presented.
Children and adults can make their own products in felting and other workshops. The popular fashion show ‘Auf Tuchfühlung mit heimischer Wolle’ (Up close and personal with local wool) presents both everyday and exclusive textiles.
The programme is organised in collaboration with the AWO production school ‘Stellwerkstatt’ from Wehlen and the Drutschmann sheep farm from Reichstädt.
Admission to the wool festival is free of charge.
